Understanding dental conditions.

Clear explanations of common concerns, with links to care and treatment options. Your dentist can help you understand what applies to you.

Plaque

Plaque is a soft, sticky film of bacteria that forms on teeth. If it builds up, it can contribute to gum disease and tooth decay.

Brushing with fluoride toothpaste twice a day and cleaning between your teeth helps remove plaque. Your dental team can show you a routine that suits your mouth.

Calculus (tartar)

Calculus is plaque that has hardened into deposits on your teeth. It can collect above and below the gumline.

Hardened deposits need professional removal. Your dentist or hygienist can assess the build-up, clean your teeth and explain how to reduce further plaque accumulation.

Gum disease

Gum disease can cause bleeding, swollen or sore gums and bad breath. More advanced disease can affect the tissues that support your teeth.

Arrange a dental assessment if your gums bleed or feel sore. Treatment depends on the findings and may include advice, professional cleaning and further gum care.

Tooth decay

Acids produced by bacteria in plaque can damage your teeth. Early decay may have no symptoms; later it can lead to a cavity, sensitivity or toothache.

Regular checks help us identify problems. Your dentist can explain prevention and whether a filling or another treatment is needed.

Sensitive teeth

Sensitivity may feel like a short, sharp pain with cold, hot or sweet foods and drinks. It can be associated with exposed dentine, gum recession, wear or other dental problems.

Tell your dentist about new, persistent or worsening sensitivity. An assessment helps identify the cause and suitable care.

Tooth wear & erosion

Teeth can lose surface structure over time. Causes can include acid erosion, tooth-to-tooth contact and brushing habits. Erosion is different from tooth decay.

We assess the pattern of wear and discuss ways to protect your teeth. Care may involve changes to habits, monitoring, a protective appliance or restorative treatment where appropriate.

Teeth grinding & clenching

Grinding or clenching can happen while awake or asleep. It may be associated with worn or damaged teeth, sensitivity and jaw discomfort.

Your dentist can assess your teeth and discuss a protective splint if suitable. An appliance can protect teeth but does not necessarily stop grinding or clenching.

Snoring

Snoring has several possible causes. For some suitable patients, a dental appliance may help, following assessment.

Speak to your GP if your breathing stops and starts during sleep, you wake gasping or choking, or you feel very sleepy during the day. These can be signs of sleep apnoea.

Cosmetic & smile treatments

Your smile. Your way.

Explore three ways to enhance your smile. We take time to understand your goals, assess suitability and explain your options.

ALIGN

Invisalign

A considered approach to a straighter smile.

Clear removable aligners offer an option for straightening suitable smiles. Digital scanning and a ClinCheck plan help us assess the proposed movement. Wearing your aligners as directed and using retainers afterwards are essential.

REFINE

Veneers

Shape, detail and a smile designed around you.

Veneers cover the front of selected teeth to change their appearance. They may involve tooth preparation and need maintenance over time. We discuss suitability and alternatives, including whitening or bonding where appropriate.

BRIGHTEN

Teeth whitening

A brighter smile, with professional guidance.

Professional whitening can lighten the natural colour of your teeth. An assessment helps us check suitability and explain what to expect. Existing fillings, crowns and veneers do not whiten, so they may need separate consideration.

Everyday care & restorative treatments

01 / PREVENT

Check-ups & hygiene

Keep everyday care at the heart of your smile. Regular examinations help us review your teeth, gums and oral health, while hygiene visits focus on cleaning and practical advice for home. Your dentist will recommend a visit interval based on your needs.

02 / RESTORE

Fillings & repairs

A filling repairs a tooth affected by decay or damage. We explain the options, the area being repaired and the estimated cost before treatment. The best choice depends on the tooth, the size of the repair and your bite.

03 / PROTECT

Crowns & bridges

A crown covers a tooth that needs additional support or restoration. A bridge can replace a missing tooth by using neighbouring teeth for support. We discuss materials, preparation, maintenance and alternatives at your assessment.

04 / SAVE

Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment cleans and seals the inside of a tooth when its pulp is inflamed or infected. We assess whether the tooth can be restored and explain the stages, likely costs and whether specialist care would be appropriate.

05 / REPLACE

Dentures

Replace missing teeth with a removable denture. Acrylic, flexible acrylic and chrome options are available. We help you understand comfort, appearance, support and ongoing care before deciding which option suits you.

07 / REFINE

Composite bonding

Tooth-coloured composite can change the shape or appearance of selected teeth. We discuss your goals, how much change is possible, ongoing maintenance and the alternatives before agreeing a treatment plan.

10 / SLEEP

Snoring appliances

For suitable patients, an appliance worn during sleep can help reduce snoring. We assess your teeth and bite, discuss your symptoms and explain whether a dental appliance may be appropriate.

If your breathing stops and starts during sleep, you wake gasping or choking, or you feel very sleepy during the day, speak to your GP about possible sleep apnoea before proceeding.

11 / PROTECT

Teeth grinding / clenching

Grinding or clenching can cause tooth wear, sensitivity and jaw discomfort. Your dentist can assess your teeth and discuss whether a protective appliance or bite splint is suitable.

An appliance can help protect your teeth. It does not necessarily stop grinding or clenching, so we also discuss advice, possible contributing factors and ongoing review.

Invisalign

A clear plan
for your smile.

Digital scanning and a ClinCheck plan help you understand the proposed treatment before you commit.

We begin with a consultation and full assessment. Some complex cases may need an orthodontist’s opinion. We use our iTero scanner to create a 3D scan and can show an outcome simulation; this is a planning aid rather than a guaranteed result.

Your ClinCheck plan shows proposed tooth movements, likely aligner numbers, attachments and whether small spaces between teeth may be needed through IPR.

Aligners require commitment: the current practice guide advises 20–22 hours of wear per day. Follow your dentist’s instructions for changing aligners. Treatment duration varies, and refinement aligners may be needed.

Retainers are essential after treatment. We explain your retention plan and the separate retainer fees. Whitening or bonding can be discussed as additional treatment where suitable.
